Strain Gauges

A strain gauge is a device used to measure strain on an object. It consists of a foil pattern etched onto a thin piece of film. It is then stuck onto a surface of an object; strategically placed so as to optimally measure the stress being experienced by the said object.

As the object is deformed, the foil is deformed, causing its electrical resistance to change. This resistance change, usually measured using a Wheatstone bridge, is related to the strain by the quantity known as the gauge-factor.

We manufacture a whole range of strain gauges, suitable for many different applications.
